Benefits of Shapewear

Like many women, full figured or not, shapewear is a part of my everyday life.  Personally, I will not walk out of my house without at least my control cami on. My shapewear give me that extra boost of confidence I need to wear that fitted shirt or my little black dress. There are a large number of women who do not know the full benefits of wearing shapewear or which type of shapewear is best for them.  At one time I was in that category.   Hopefully this will help educate some women about shapewear and how to use it.

To begin to understand shapewear, you have to realize that there are many different types.  Depending on the brand, they are named differently.  Some of the basic types of shapewear are:
  • ·         Girdles
  • ·         Body Briefs
  • ·         Control Camisoles
  • ·         Bodysuits
  • ·         Control Capri’s
  • ·         Waist Cinchers
  • ·         Slips (both full and half)

The different types come in four different types of controls.  They are light, medium, firm and extra firm.  I personally like how Hourglass Angel has the controls listed as minimal, slight, moderate, strong and maximum.  You have to figure out your desired result before you purchase your shapewear.  If you are looking for a smooth look then a light control would be good for you. If you are expect to lose about 2-4 inches with smoothing, flattening and lifting, than you would choose a firm or maximum control.  The big thing to remember is to purchase the shapewear in your size.  If your shapewear is too small, the shapewear can roll up or down or move out of place and even create more rolls and bulges.
It is important to remember that shapewear is beneficial for women and men of all shapes and sizes.  Yes, there is a line of shapewear for men.  (If you don’t believe me, check out www.spanx.com and you will see a category Spanx for Men)  If you are looking to smooth, firm, flatten, lift and cinch then shapewear is the way to go.  It helps to make your clothes fit and lay better.  Shapewear can enhance your figure to give you that zing you need when you step out in that evening dress or even jeans and tee. Everyone can appreciate looking and even feeling better in what you wear.  The different types of shapewear can help you hide and smooth stomach and back rolls, lift and firm your butt and thighs and flatten the infamous muffin top.  One of the all important benefits of shapewear is it can help you fit into that smaller size you have in your closet.  That would make any woman happy.

During my research about shapewear, I found another true benefit and why we all should wear it.  I found that shapewear can help your posture by providing back support.  It can also help strengthen and support your stomach and back muscles and help promote blood circulation.   Shapewear that incorporates shoulder straps help pull your shoulders back giving you a longer, liner look.  This also opens up your chest and provides more space for your lungs to inflate.  Any garment that will help my posture and can have some health benefits is worth wearing on a daily basis.

Personally, shapewear has helped me look and feel better.  I have an hourglass shape and heavy on the top and bottom.  So the control cami’s and bodysuits work for me.  The brands I use are Spanx, Co’Coon, Flexees and Yummie Tummie.  I have use the following websites to purchase my shapewear:

You can purchase shapewear anywhere; online or in stores.  Just make sure it is the right size and will give you your desired result.

Why???

I promised myself that I was not going to do this but I have too.  WHY?? Why are people so critical?  Why do people judge you when they haven't taken the time to know you?  Why when I want to be sexy, I get the evil looks? WHY? WHY? WHY?

I have come to the conclusion that people want to project their views and self image problems on to you. Well, I am not going to let it happen to me anymore.  I am tired of being pushed to the background because I am the big girl.  I am tired of being overlooked because they feel that someone else can represent them better then I can.  I am not going to let them make me feel bad about myself.  I will not play the background quietly anymore.  Everyone will hear my voice and know that I am here.  No more will I let someone else take credit for my hard work.  No more will I let the way someone looks at me make me doubt my outfit.  Not going to happen again!

I have allowed people to put me in a box.  I have allowed peoples view of me mold me into this person who just followed the path that they set for me.  Now I am in the process of creating my own path.  I am going to accept myself for who I am.  I am going to make my own decisions and speak up for myself.  No more will I take no for an answer and just walk away.  I am going to keep pushing and trying until I get that yes.

This is who I am. Take it or leave me alone.

What's Trending

What's Trending Now: Animal Prints.

I found a great selection of Animal Prints at Fashion to Figure. They also carry a wide range of styles at a very reasonable price.

Check them out at www.fashiontofigure.com.

To address the comment from my last post about the woman who might be in between the 14 & 16.

I spoke to Nicole Nolan of Elocin Boutique in Trenton NJ and she said Junior Plus is the way to go for the in between woman.  In the Junior Plus world, a size 16 fits a size 15 and a size 20 fits a size 19.  The Junior Plus sizes are less expensive but the quality is not as good.  Junior Plus clothes are targeted to growing tweens and teens and the life span of these clothes are about 2 years.

Some of the stores that carry Junior Plus are Deb's, Macy's, Kohl's and Sears.  I browsed their websites and they have a pretty good selection and styles.  I would suggest that you take a look for yourself and tell me what you think.

New Direction

Plus Size Fashion

This has been an interest of mine for a very long time and now I am ready to take it to the next level.  I had a wonderful discussion with someone tonight that gave me some very good advice. She told me:

  • Learn the Industry
  • Know your stats
  • Be unique and true to yourself
  • Networking is golden
I just want to thank this person for the wonder advice.  So now this is what I am going to do.  When I get her permission, I am going to market her business.  As many chances that I get, I am going to say her name, show off her designs and advertise her business.

I am here to do the same for others.  Please put my 10 plus years of sales and marketing to work for your business.  I can be contacted at danielletheblogger@gmail.com.

My blog is headed in a new direction.  PLUS SIZE FASHION I am going to be blogging about what's new and what's in.  Pictures of clothing you can purchase and where.  You let me know what you want to know and I will make sure I put it out there.

If you have an event or store that you would like for me to promote and to feature please reach out to me.

I am ready to go,

On My Journey

I love my new path.  I am making changes to better myself and my life.  I am closing old doors to open up new ones.  Working hard is what I do and who I am.  I am going to live my life the right way now.

I am going to start with my new interest in Plus Size Fashion.  I have opened my eyes to new styles and designers that cater to the plus size woman.  From now on, I will not wear a shirt that looks like someone in there 60's should be wearing it.  I will not wear a dress that looks like a table cloth.  I am expanding my interest and looking for designers and plus size models to help me grow my knowledge of plus size fashion.  If you are out there, please reach out to me.  I would love to pick your brain and share your knowledge with everyone else.

Goal:

To interview at least 1 designer or model within the next two weeks and post my finding on my blog.

Mini Goal:

To visit at least 2 boutiques that cater to the plus size woman and learn more about their business.

I will make this happen!!!

My Plan

  1. Evaluate the  situation
  2. Determine what changes need to be made
  3. Design a plan of attack to make those changes
  4. Set mini goals to help you stick to your plan
  5. Then reevaluate your situation
I am using this plan to help change my situation.  My first change is my job.  I'm not happy there and I do not get paid enough for the hours and hard work I put in. I need to make money to support my family and care for there needs.  But I also need time to spend with my family.   So since I evaluated my situation, I have decided that I need an new job.  I have determine that I need to work for a company that will respect my talents and allow me to use all of my current skills and learn new ones.  In addition to that, they will compensate me for my talents.

My plan of attach is to search for a new job with the proper compensations.  My mini goals are:
  • Submit my resume to at least 7-10 job posting per week.
  • Cold call at least 3 companies a week to submit my resume
  • Attend at least 2 job fairs a month.
  • Research working as a consultant to small business
  • Ask for referrals
I am open to working in any industry and I am willing to put the time and effort needed to learn that industry.  I am so ready to undertake this job hunting journey.

To help fulfill one of my mini goals, I am asking for a job referral.  If you know of any job openings, please let me know.  I can gladly provide you with my experience and a copy of my resume.

I'm putting it out there so hopefully I will get a return.

My Way

Blogging is new to me but it has been something I have always wanted to do.  I have been told that blogging is cheaper then therapy and I would most likely get better feedback.  I hope that is true because I have a lot I need to get out.

First, let's start with who and what I am.  I am a 31 year old wife and mother to two beautiful children ages 3 and 15 months.  I am a Real Estate Agent and a Salesperson at a yearbook company.  I am multi-talented and ambitious but who would know that.  My husband tells me I already have three strikes against me when it comes to the business world.  I'm plus size, I'm black and a women. Because of this I have to work harder just to prove myself.  In the 10 plus years of working in the corporate world and even in Real Estate, I have experienced being looked over for jobs or promotions because people assume that I am not capable.  I could have been the best sales person on the team or my project was presented and received the most praise but it was never good enough.  But I am always good enough to clean up everyone's messes and problems.  It seems like I am always playing the background to a man or the pretty skinny woman and I hate it.

I know I am not the only one this happens too.  My question is why does it happen?  If I am good enough to research and design the presentation why should someone else present it?  Why do people look me over as if my resume is a lie?  Then, even when I prove myself and go above and beyond my job, I still do not get the recognition I deserve or the pay. Where do I go wrong? I can not change the fact that I am a woman nor that I am black but I can lose weight.  But who is to say that losing weight will make things better?  I know I can not change peoples perceptions of certain types of people, but how do I change their perception of me?
It seems like I have tried everything but nothing is working.  Then I started to think, why should I have to work so hard to prove myself?  I am a valuable asset to any team I join or any venture I take on.  I am ambitious, hard working, a go getter and open minded to learning new things.  I'm creative, organized and have a great attention to detail.  You would think someone with my experience and skill set would have tons of opportunities. So where are my opportunities?

I have tons more to say but I am going to save some of my next posting.

I welcome all thoughts and comments.
