SmartCurves Review of 2012

Smart Curves

This year was full of new ventures for me. I started my blog in July. I had my first photos shoot in August; and experienced first hand what happens backstage at a runway show. Then in October, I had my very first experience walking in a runway show. Along the way, I met some awesome and inspiring people. I was able to share with you my fashion picks, and interviews with designers, models and people who where championing for a cause. I can guarantee that there will be much more from me in 2013.

I have had so many people who have inspired me this year to do what I am doing. It would only be right if I show them some appreciations the only way I know how.

Smart Curves & Nicole Nolan
Nicole Nolan owner of Elocin Boutique has been a great inspiration and a friend. She encouraged me to start blogging and gave me some killer advice. She has introduced me to a level of style that I never experienced before. Nicole is also an amazing stylist. You can find her at www.elocinplus.com or at her store location 230 East State Street Trenton, NJ 08608. Nicole is also on Facebook Elocin Boutique and Twitter ElocinPlus.

Domonique Revere-Lincoln

Domonique Revere-Lincoln, plus model, co-creator of Curvy Closets and owner of Empress Lingerie is a bubble of knowledge and know how. I knew she was an amazing person when she took the time to call me and give me advice even before we met. If I have a question, she always gives me an answer and I thank her so much for that. Check her out at www.empresslingerie.com and on Facebook and Twitter Empress Lingerie.

Smart Curves & Angie de Milo
Angie de Milo, plus model, singer, and runway coach; let us not forget she is an enchanting. She is a straightforward person and a tough runway coach. I found that out when I took her class. I learned a lot from her about modeling and myself. You can learn more about Angie at www.angiedemilo.com.

Sharon Quinn - Smart Curves- Gwen DeVoe
I also want to mention the wonderful women I met in the last few months that proved to be inspiration to countless others and myself. Gwen DeVoe of DeVoe Signature Events (www.fffweek.com), Sharon Quinn of DeVoe Signature Events, Colleen Stovall (www.shortcurvyfierce.com), Jeannie Ferguson (www.biggirlsunited.com) , Samantha Lebbie (www.SamanthaLebbie.com), Lori Ruffin (www.seananthonydesigns.com ), Veronica Lipscomb (trudiva.com), Shellice Beharie (www.blacklistedcouture.com), Telisha Gibson of Perfectly Flawed, Kalyea Moss (kalyea-moss.healthcoach1.integrativenutrition.com) Kat Quarterman of Sense of Style Boutique (www.senseofstyleboutique.com), Vanessa Mays-Hinds and Jessel Ramos. There are countless more wonderful people that I have met but I would be here all night listing them all. I know in 2013 we will connect again and do it big.

Finally, I have to give a huge shout out to my new inspirations, Michelle Vicks and Kiera Robins of H2BN. They have been my crouch in my natural hair journey. I am in love with the Coco Almond Hair Milk and the Rejuvenation Bar. My skin and hair improves everyday as I use there products. You can check out www.h2bnboutique.esty.com for all-natural body & hair care needs. H2BN (Happi 2 B Natural), LLC is here to help you (and me) edify your beauty the natural way. Telisha D. Gibson Project Inc

Telisha Gibson

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Telisha Gibson on Twitter and she asked me to check out this link. (http://drivensociety.com/perfectly-flawed-a-young-womans-purpose/#.ULuuZuSpRuk) I am so happy I did because I was inspired by her story. Her story brought to my attention, a skin condition that I was not familiar with, Vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin condition where there is loss of pigment (melanin) in areas of the skin, resulting in irregular white patches. In researching this condition, I found that this affects people of all races and there is no cure. There are treatments to help slow the loss of melanin but that is not guaranteed.

Telisha Gibson is a beautiful woman who is fighting for a good cause. I am thrilled that she is not letting her condition stop her from moving forward.

Smart Curves:  Please tell me about yourself and your organization?

Telisha: I am 23 years old. I am the president of Telisha D. Gibson Project Inc. (Non-Profit) Within my organization I have started a campaign called Perfectly Flawed. PF is a movement teaching and showing people all across the world that embracing and understanding uncontrollable conditions such as vitiligo is possible and I am a living testimony of that. Having vitiligo has been an uphill battle, from being depressed and suicidal to understanding and accepting. The PF motto "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."
Smart Curves: What motivated you to start your organization?

Telisha: My experiences in life honestly is what has pushed me into this field. I want to help people. I know what it feels like to not fit in and feel you don't have a place in life. Seeing the world in a negative light, never seeking and taking a hold of the good that the world has to offer.

Telisha Gibson
Smart Curves: What is the overall goal of your organization?

Telisha: Our overall goal is to spread awareness about this beautiful condition called vitiligo. I want the world to see the good, the bad, the myths, the facts, and the faces. Our way of doing that is creating a documentary which is now in pre-production. We want to take this documentary and send it to film festivals.

Smart Curves: How can people get involved?

Telisha: People can reach out to me on twitter and instagram @justflawed or www.facebook.com/atswork  or emailatswork6@gmail.com

Let’s show Telisha that we appreciate her hard work and commitment to bringing awareness about Vitiligo. I cannot wait to see the documentary. For more information, you can visit www.atswork.myshopify.com. Tell her Smart Curves sent ya!!J
